Great to meet you!

Welcome. I’m Johanna Berberena, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP), Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, and NYSTF Chaplain with over 15 years of experience helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life’s most challenging seasons.

Clients often describe me as compassionate, genuine, and easy to talk to while also being thoughtful, direct, and solution-focused. I believe healing begins in a space where you feel truly heard, understood, and accepted without judgment.

Whether you are facing a difficult life transition, processing trauma or loss, struggling in your relationships, or simply seeking greater emotional well-being, I am committed to helping you build resilience, rediscover hope, and create the life you want. It would be a privilege to walk alongside you as you move toward healing, growth, and lasting transformation.

My approach to therapy

I believe effective therapy is built on a trusting relationship where clients feel genuinely heard, understood, and supported. My approach is warm, collaborative, and tailored to each person’s unique needs, goals, and experiences. I strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients can explore difficult emotions, gain insight, and develop practical skills for lasting change.

I integrate evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), the Gottman Method, and clinical hypnosis when appropriate. Faith based and Spiritual Counseling is available as well, if that's right for you.

I work with individuals, couples, adolescents, and families with expertise in multiple areas of treatment. I also specialize in dementia care, helping individuals and families navigate the emotional and practical challenges of cognitive decline.

Rather than offering one-size-fits-all solutions, I partner with clients to build on their strengths, increase self-awareness, develop healthier coping strategies, and foster resilience. My goal is not only to help clients feel better but also to equip them with the tools and confidence to thrive beyond therapy.

I am committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care that honors your unique journey and supports you in creating the life you want.

What you can expect from me

During your first session, my priority is getting to know you, not just the challenges that brought you to therapy, but also your strengths, values, and goals. I strive to create a warm, welcoming, and judgment-free environment where you can feel safe sharing your story at your own pace.

Together, we will discuss your current concerns, personal history, and what you hope to gain from therapy. I will ask thoughtful questions to better understand your experiences, answer any questions you may have about the therapeutic process, and collaborate with you to develop a personalized treatment plan that aligns with your needs and goals.

You can expect our sessions to be collaborative, compassionate, and practical. My goal is for you to leave your first appointment feeling heard, understood, and hopeful, with greater clarity about the path forward and confidence that you have a supportive partner in your journey toward healing and growth.
