Great to meet you!

Finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming, especially when you've been struggling with something for a while or aren't quite sure where to begin.

I'm Dr. Johanna Riojas, a licensed psychologist who works with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, stress, and life transitions.

I believe therapy works best when you feel genuinely comfortable with the person sitting across from you. My style is warm, compassionate, and collaborative, but I'm also willing to gently challenge you when it can help you grow. You don't need to have everything figured out before reaching out. Sometimes, simply having a space to talk openly and begin making sense of what you're experiencing is an important first step.

My approach to therapy

My approach focuses on helping you understand not only what you're experiencing, but also why certain thoughts, emotions, and relationship patterns may keep showing up in your life.

I draw from psychodynamic therapy, attachment-based approaches, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and other evidence-based treatments to tailor our work to your individual needs.

Together, we'll explore how your experiences and relationships may be influencing the way you see yourself, navigate challenges, and connect with others. We'll also identify practical strategies to help you feel more confident and capable in your daily life.

I believe meaningful change happens through a combination of insight, self-compassion, and learning to respond to familiar challenges in new ways.

What you can expect from me

Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin understanding what brings you to therapy.

I'll ask questions about your current concerns, relevant background, and what you're hoping to gain from our work together. You don't need to have a perfectly organized explanation of what you're experiencing, and there's no expectation that you share everything all at once.

We'll take time to explore what's been happening in your life, discuss what you'd like to work toward, and begin thinking about how therapy might be helpful.

My goal is for you to leave our first conversation feeling heard, supported, and more comfortable with the process ahead.
