Great to meet you!

Being the strong one gets heavy. I'm Dr. Johanna Riojas, a licensed psychologist in Texas, and I work with young adults, adults, and older adults navigating anxiety, depression, stress, grief, relationship and family challenges, and work stress.

I've been practicing for six years, including three years in a university counseling setting and two years at the VA.

I'm passionate about supporting underserved communities, including LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC clients, and I especially welcome first responders, teachers, and fellow mental health professionals. Helpers need help too.

My approach to therapy

My job is to help you better understand yourself and live more in line with your values. I draw from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, mindfulness, and a person-centered approach, and I shape how we use them around you.

A lot of my work focuses on practical skills: setting boundaries and actually keeping them, managing stress and sleep, and easing anxiety, alongside the deeper work of understanding where your patterns come from.

I'm warm and empathetic in session, and I consider it an honor to join you on your healing journey.

What you can expect from me

Our first session is about getting to know you: what's bringing you in, what you'd like to feel differently, and what matters most to you. From there, we'll shape a plan around your goals and values.

You can expect someone warm, curious, and on your side, in a space where every part of who you are is welcome.

When I'm not in session, I'm usually reading for one of my book clubs, playing a cozy video game, cheering on the San Francisco 49ers, or hanging out with my two cats and two dogs. Rest and joy matter, and we'll make room for them in your life too.
