Dr. John Byun is a board certified psychiatrist with extensive experience treating both children and adults. Throughout his career, Dr. Byun has worked in diverse clinical settings, including outpatient clinics and inpatient hospitals such as Austin State Hospital, where he provided care to some of Texas’ most critically ill patients. Dr. Byun has a special interest in depression and anxiety, as well as children with behavioral challenges including ODD and DMDD. He has a passion for working with patients who deal with those conditions.

Dr. Byun obtained his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine, and received his training in Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA and University of Texas at Austin.

My approach to therapy

Dr. Byun believes that effective psychiatric treatment starts with a good patient-doctor relationship. He focuses on listening with empathy and meeting patients where they are in order to build and foster this relationship, which is the foundation for positive change.

What you can expect from me

Dr. Byun strives for every client to walk away with a deeper understanding of themselves and appreciation for their journey from each session. Clients should also have a strong understanding of short and long term plan as well as rationale for the plan
