Great to meet you!

Hello and welcome to taking a step towards becoming your best self! I have had a lot of experience over the years with a variety of clients.

I recently completed a year long training on mindfulness meditation so can do MBSR sessions (mindfulness based stress reduction). I feel that this modality can be applied to any problem or situation and the benefits complement any other therapeutic strategies we are likely to implement such as CBT.

Early in my career, I worked as a school based therapist with a challenging population of children which included: severely emotionally disturbed, foster care and intensive foster care, and children with learning disabilities. The ages ranged from K-12, but I more often worked with middle to high school kids. Frequent treatment areas were ADHD, depression, anxiety, and conduct disorders.

After that I worked with veterans with thought disorders such as bipolar and schizophrenia for several years. This included a lot of work with caregivers who were involved with them on a regular basis.

I currently work with homeless veterans where we work with them after they are housed on a variety of issues like ptsd, depression, anxiety, and substance abuse.

I also have worked with Medicare clients doing therapy at their residences on a variety of issues such as depression, anxiety, grief and loss issues, and life stage issues that occur in geriatric populations.

While some of you will not fit into these populations, it has been beneficial seeing that I can work with people while they are at low points in their lives and still see life changing success. It makes it easier to identify your strengths that you may be overlooking after doing this type of work. You and I working as a team can overcome so much more than you think is possible!

My approach to therapy

Since thoughts lead to emotions and behaviors, we will use a lot of CBT, solution focused therapy, and mindfulness to assist in overcoming challenges. It is safe to say that problematic thoughts happen to everyone so we will work together to address these and improve your coping skills.

I believe in identifying your strengths to help you work through your barriers as a team so you can live your best life. It is always easier for a therapist or other neutral party to help you find your strengths when that is a struggle and you feel stuck. I am someone who honestly wants to see you overcome whatever is holding you back from living a happy, healthy life and give you the tools to continue that in the future! My hope is that even if life gives you lemons which happens to all of us, you will be able to cope in adaptive and healthy ways and overcome anything in your path!

What you can expect from me

Healthier, adaptive ways of coping with whatever life throws at them. I want clients to be able to reframe situations and view them in more positive and functional ways will lead to success in whatever their goals may be.
