Great to meet you!

Hello. I'm John. I have been alive for half a century and counseling for over 20 years. In the early days, I was running groups in drug rehabs, and now I counsel individuals online. I have encountered many different people and many different problems. It is really challenging, but I do it because I love humans. I treat individuals, not diagnoses. I try to be guided by timeless wisdom more than trendy psychological buzzwords. Creativity and humor are among my favorite things, and my greatest goal in life is to be a truly loving person.

My approach to therapy

My favorite "name brand" approach to therapy is called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I think it is practical, mindful and person-centered. More traditional approaches like Cognitive therapy and Psychodynamics are also blended in. In addition, my experience in the substance dependence field taught me a lot about Motivational Interviewing and Trauma-Informed counseling.

What you can expect from me

My hope is that people will feel a sense of warmth and respect as an overall take-away from one of our visits. From what clients have told me, there's a good chance you might walk away with a "Hmm, I never thought of it that way". The most basic belief a client should carry away from a session with me is that I care about you, and I want you to get closer to the version of yourself that you wish to be... Because I do.
