Great to meet you!

I'm JW "Cliff" Williams, I completed a M.Ed. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2015. I'm a Licensed Counselor in Georgia and hold National Board Certification through NBCC. I'm also a Master Addiction Counselor. My theoretical orientation combines elements of REBT, Reality Therapy, and ACT. Clients have described me as "down to Earth" and I like that description. My goal is to help you learn and discover the things about YOU which are intensifying your emotional difficulties. "It's not the things that happen that upset us, but how we think about those things." - Epictetus. You already have the power to make the changes you want. My job is to help you identify the power and provide you with the tools to achieve your goals.

My approach to therapy

I have a directive approach to counseling. That means you'll share your issues, I'll ask questions and guide you toward healthier management of your feelings (anxiety, depression, anger, jealousy, fear, obsession, etc.) and goal achievement. I don't use a lot of clinical language and hope that it feels like a conversation.

What you can expect from me

In our first session, I'd like to hear about what you're experiencing that got you to seek therapy. I'll ask questions that help give me a picture of you, your life experience, beliefs, perspective and learn about what you want to achieve in our sessions. I often provide handouts and follow-up summaries after sessions. This helps you decide if the goals we set are appropriate to your issue. My clients have to described me as "down to Earth" and I work to create a safe space for you to share.
