Great to meet you!

Prioritizing your mental health is a powerful step and I'm here to walk with you through it.

Hi, I'm Jonathan Gears, a Licensed Professional Counselor (MA) passionate about individuals move from feeling stuck and overwhelmed to living with greater clarity and self-compassion.

If you're working hard but still asking yourself, "What's the point?" — you're not alone. Many of my clients are navigating the weight of past experiences, perfectionism, anxiety, burnout, or simply the pressure to have it all figured out. Whether it's from childhood, relationships, or high-stress environments, unresolved emotional pain can quietly shape how we see ourselves and show up in the world.

My approach is trauma-informed and grounded in therapeutic modalities like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), and person-centered therapy. In practice, that means we’ll explore your inner world with curiosity and compassion — identifying patterns, healing emotional wounds, and reconnecting with what truly matters to you. I aim to create a down-to-earth, supportive space where you can be yourself without judgment.

I specialize in working with:

  • Anxiety, overthinking, and perfectionism
  • Trauma
  • Burnout and people-pleasing
  • Depression and low motivation
  • Men’s issues and emotional expression
  • Social anxiety, relationships, and identity concerns
  • Imposter syndrome, anger, and frustration

I offer in-person sessions in Alamosa, CO, and remote therapy throughout Colorado. You’re welcome to book a free, no-pressure 15-minute video consultation to see if we’re a good fit.

My approach to therapy

My approach combines emotion-focused therapies such as Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Person-Centered Therapy to help clients heal from past wounds and overcome current setbacks. I then integrate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) along with Motivational Interviewing techniques to empower clients in creating meaningful, lasting change. By encouraging self-compassion, resilience, and a growth mindset, I help clients thrive in their present and future. Having witnessed the transformative power of therapy, I am deeply passionate about guiding clients not only toward healing, but also toward true flourishing.

What you can expect from me

In our first session, you can expect a warm, welcoming environment where we take the time to get to know each other. We’ll discuss your goals for therapy, explore the challenges you’re facing, and start to identify the patterns that may be keeping you stuck. I’ll explain my approach and how we’ll work together to create meaningful change. Most importantly, you’ll be heard and supported throughout the process, with no pressure or judgment. By the end of our session, you’ll have a clearer understanding of how we can move forward in a way that feels right for you.
