Great to meet you!

Hello and welcome. My name is Tony Arenas, and I am a Bilingual Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Certified Addiction Specialist (CAS) dedicated to walking alongside individuals on their journeys toward healing, growth, and long-term recovery. Bringing over 15 years of diverse clinical experience to my practice, I have served populations across high-acuity psychiatric hospitals, residential treatment programs, correctional facilities, and outpatient settings. In addition to my clinical work, I am a doctoral candidate pursuing a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in Advanced Addiction Studies, which allows me to integrate the latest evidence-based clinical research directly into our therapeutic collaboration.

Throughout my career, I have developed deep expertise in treating complex dual-diagnoses, severe substance use disorders, and acute behavioral health challenges. Having spearheaded innovative Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) programs and directed crisis stabilization units, I bring a highly specialized skill set to individuals navigating early detox, relapse prevention, and emotional instability. My educational foundation spans from an associate degree in drug and alcohol studies to my ongoing doctoral work, ensuring a deeply rooted understanding of the physiological, psychological, and systemic dimensions of addiction and mental health challenges. Because I am fully bilingual, I provide culturally competent care in both English and Spanish, ensuring a welcoming space where language is never a barrier to receiving exceptional support.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is grounded in a deep commitment to the "human touch" and a holistic view of human wellness. I firmly believe that sustainable recovery and emotional stability are achieved when we honor and integrate all aspects of your identity—the physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental health dimensions of your life. My style is fundamentally person-centered, collaborative, and judgment-free, recognizing that you are the ultimate expert on your own life. Drawing heavily on Albert Bandura's Social Cognitive Theory, our work will focus on building your self-efficacy and agency, empowering you with the internal confidence and practical skills required to create lasting behavioral change and long-term maintenance.

Rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all model, I tailor evidence-based interventions to suit your unique life experiences and cultural background. I actively utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help reframe maladaptive thought patterns, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to enhance emotional regulation and distress tolerance, and solution-focused frameworks to establish actionable pathing forward. Additionally, I am a strong advocate for peer-led self-help models and integrated care frameworks, such as coordinating with Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) providers when appropriate, to provide a complete and supportive continuum of care for substance use and co-occurring disorders.

What you can expect from me

In your first session, you can expect an environment characterized by safety, deep empathy, and absolute confidentiality. Walking into therapy takes immense courage, and my immediate goal is to establish a secure, trusting alliance where you feel fully seen, heard, and respected without the weight of stigma or judgment. We will move at a pace that feels comfortable for you as we begin to map out your primary concerns and the history surrounding them.

Our main outcome for this initial session is to form a cohesive, collaborative foundation for your care. Together, we will complete an initial biopsychosocial evaluation to understand your immediate needs, safety factors, and personal strengths. Rather than imposing rigid expectations, we will work as partners to define measurable, tailored short- and long-term goals that align with your personal vision of recovery and healing. You will leave the first session not only with a clearer conceptualization of our path forward, but also with an immediate sense of therapeutic support and an initial strategy to help you navigate your current challenges.
