Great to meet you!

Maybe you're tired of drinking or using to get through the day. Maybe the same arguments keep happening at home, grief has made everything feel heavy, or anxiety, depression, or old trauma keeps pulling you back. Whatever it is, you don't have to figure it out alone.

I'm Joseph, a Licensed Professional Counselor with Mental Health Service Provider designation (LPC-MHSP) and a Master's in Community Counseling from Regent University. For more than 13 years, I've worked with adults, teens, and families in outpatient, residential, and hospital settings. I've directed substance use treatment programs at PAX Memphis, and I currently serve as Assistant Clinical Program Director at Compass Intervention Center, an adolescent psychiatric hospital.

I help people facing substance use, relationship and family conflict, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, trauma, anger, bipolar disorder, identity concerns, and emotional overwhelm. I've also worked with eating disorders, dissociation, and crisis situations, so very little you bring will be unfamiliar to me. At Bound By Hope Counseling, everyone is welcome, including LGBTQ+ and transgender clients.

My approach to therapy

My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and built around you. I use proven methods like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Trauma-Focused CBT to help you understand your thoughts, emotions, and patterns. Because so many struggles affect the whole family, I also bring in family-focused work when it helps. We'll look at how your past, your relationships, and your current circumstances connect, and then build practical skills you can use right away. My goal isn't just to help you manage symptoms. I want to help you build a life that feels more fulfilling, connected, and hopeful.

What you can expect from me

Our first session is about getting to know each other. We'll talk about what's bringing you in, what's been hardest lately, and what you'd like to be different. I'll ask about your background, relationships, and strengths, and we'll go over confidentiality and how therapy works. You don't need to know where to begin or have it all figured out. You set the pace. By the end, we'll have a starting point and a plan for taking the first step together.
