Great to meet you!

Hi, I am Joseph! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate supervised by Abby Jo Hawkins, LPC-S. I received a Master's in Education in Mental Health Counseling at Sul Ross State University and a Master's in Science in Sociology at East Texas A & M University. Over the last 8 years, I have dedicated myself to working with individuals in the mental health field. My journey has taken me from outpatient mental health clinics for day-to-day counseling to crisis counseling spaces to help adults, teens, and children in their darkest moments. I combine my clinical training with genuine, down-to-earth therapy to help individuals navigating depression, anxiety, grief and loss and LGBTQ+ identity issues or stress.

My approach to therapy

My therapeutic approaches are rooted in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) along with Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Person-Centered Therapy. Through this, I help individuals look beyond their symptoms and help them understand what is keeping them stuck. As a Grief-Informed Professional, I tailor interventions rooted in CBT and existential therapy to meet the needs of each individual depending on age, culture, and understanding.

What you can expect from me

In the first session, clients can expect a warm and open environment in which we discuss their unique needs and hopes for counseling. We will discuss how clients want to approach the sessions and identify their specific plans for treatment. I am a counselor that believes you should not have to filter yourself or hide who you are to receive great care. We will collaborate on real-world goals that align with clients' personal values and identities.
