Great to meet you!

Hi, I am Joe, a licensed mental health therapist. I believe that people are capable of change, which is why I do what I do. It's understandable if you come to therapy feeling low and unmotivated. This is normal. Your first step in coming here is a big deal and not an easy decision or task. That right there is motivation. I believe in a collaborative approach and meeting you where you are in your life. I am not an expert on you, but we can work together to understand what is getting in the way of your goals and make plans to address these areas. I am here to help you figure out what needs to change and to guide you through the process of improving your mental health and growing as a person. I am a caring, open, and non-judgmental person, who loves cats, music, reading, and video games. I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, especially around a bon fire.

My approach to therapy

I approach sessions with collaboration and a tailored style to fit with your individual needs. I use a positive, person-centered approach, with elements of Cognitive-Behavior and Solution-Focused therapies. I will help you recognize your strengths and build on them, as well as increasing your abilities to cope with difficulties. You are in charge, we go at your speed, and things should always be comfortable for you during therapy sessions.

What you can expect from me

The process of seeking and entering therapy can feel intimidating. I provide a safe space to process emotions with low pressure, and I help to set goals with time frames that are flexible. In the first session I want to hear your story and spend time getting to know one another. I hope that you will walk away with feelings of validation, as well as practical solutions to problems. I will often ask at the end of a session what main themes were discussed and what was ultimately taken from the session.
