Great to meet you!

I’m Dr. Joseph Yanni, a licensed psychologist who works with teenagers, college students, young adults, adults, parents, and families navigating anxiety, ADHD, emotional regulation, school and college stress, relationship challenges, and life transitions. I earned my Psy.D. in School Psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University and continue to work as a school psychologist, supporting students with emotional disabilities in a specialized educational setting. This experience has given me a practical understanding of how emotional, academic, social, family, and developmental concerns often overlap.

I use a collaborative, practical, and integrative approach that draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, humanistic and person-centered therapy, behavioral strategies, and lifestyle-based interventions. I believe therapy should be individualized rather than following a one-size-fits-all model. Together, we work to better understand what is contributing to the concern, build practical coping skills, strengthen relationships, and develop realistic strategies that create meaningful change.

I work especially well with teenagers, college students, young adults, and parents navigating the transition from adolescence into adulthood, while also supporting adults and families facing anxiety, relationship concerns, and other important life challenges. I provide in-person therapy in Scarsdale and Pleasantville, along with virtual therapy throughout New York State.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is collaborative, practical, individualized, and integrative. I tailor treatment to each client’s needs, strengths, goals, developmental stage, and life circumstances rather than relying on a rigid or one-size-fits-all model.

I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, humanistic and person-centered therapy, behavioral strategies, and lifestyle-based interventions. Depending on your needs, therapy may include identifying patterns, building coping and emotional-regulation skills, exploring relationships and past experiences, improving communication, and making practical changes that support daily life.

My style is supportive but active. Together, we work to understand what is getting in the way, why certain patterns continue, and what may help you move forward. The goal is not only greater insight, but also stronger coping skills, healthier relationships, increased confidence, and meaningful change in everyday life.

What you can expect from me

In your first therapy session, you can expect a thoughtful, supportive space to discuss what has been happening and what you hope will change. We will review your current concerns, relevant background, goals for therapy, and any emotional, behavioral, relationship, school, work, or family patterns that may be contributing to distress.

My style is active, collaborative, and individualized. I work to help you feel understood while also beginning to create greater clarity, direction, and practical next steps. The first session is not about having everything figured out immediately. It is an opportunity to better understand the concern, determine whether the therapeutic fit feels right, and identify a meaningful direction for treatment.
