Great to meet you!

Hello! I'm Josh, a family therapist with about 13 years professional experience in private practice. I've been working with teens and adults since 2012, and fully licensed since 2014. My theory of therapy is that everyone comes to therapy with some kind of dilemma, problem, or pain. I see it as my goal to help restore the twin pillars of humanity to people through therapy: love, and trust. Or, said differently, a sense of identity about oneself, and a sense of empowerment and safety over one's own life and circumstances. These two things -- love/identity, and trust/safety, form the foundation for all of our lives and interactions. If we're not sure who we are, or if it's safe, we often will choose to avoid interaction and maintain isolation. While this may keep us truly safe, it may also rob us of growth, achievement, and satisfaction. If something has you stuck, or if fear, pain, or problems are keeping you down -- let's talk. Maybe we'll figure out the solution by looking together at patterns and engaging in growth-oriented conversations.

My approach to therapy

My approach is simple: identify the pain cycle (the usual process of emotions, beliefs, thoughts, and actions that keep a person stuck in pain), help the client identify the pain cycle and take different steps, and then lastly explore what else could be "true" for the client if the pain weren't so prominent and in their way. What could you do if you didn't have your pain?

What you can expect from me

You can expect, in your first session with me, to get a lay of the land. I'll ask about your life, your habits, your health/fitness/wellness, and look for any areas where you might be stuck. We may or may not arrive at some kind of diagnosis after a first session, so expect it might take a second meeting to really get to the root of what's going on. Additionally, you can expect that I won't start throwing out all kinds of random "advice" right away. My first goal is to listen and see you for who you are. If I can help, it won't be immediately. My experience has taught me that it takes time before my willingness to help can truly be beneficial.
