Great to meet you!

I am Joshua Johnson, serving clients throughout Arizona. With 17 years of behavioral health and counseling experience, I support individuals, couples, families, and adolescents experiencing trauma, PTSD, grief, anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, family conflict, identity-related stress, emotional regulation difficulties, and major life transitions.

I am also a PhD Candidate in Social Work, which strengthens my commitment to ethical, culturally responsive, evidence-informed care. I am especially passionate about supporting clients who feel overwhelmed, disconnected, stuck, or uncertain about their next steps. I also provide affirming care for LGBTQ+ clients and individuals whose experiences are influenced by culture, faith, family, and community.

My approach to therapy

My approach is compassionate, collaborative, trauma-informed, and individualized. I believe therapy should provide a safe and nonjudgmental space where clients can explore their experiences, identify unhealthy patterns, strengthen coping skills, and reconnect with their sense of purpose and self-worth.

I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills, EMDR-informed care, mindfulness, person-centered therapy, attachment-based interventions, family systems theory, narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy, psychoeducation, and strengths-based practice. Treatment is tailored to each client’s needs because healing is not a one-size-fits-all process.

What you can expect from me

During the first session, clients can expect a welcoming, respectful, and supportive environment. We will discuss what brought you to therapy, your current concerns, relevant experiences, personal strengths, and what you hope to accomplish through treatment.

The first session is also an opportunity to ask questions, become comfortable with the therapeutic process, and determine whether we are a good clinical fit. Together, we will begin identifying treatment goals and developing an individualized plan focused on healing, emotional wellness, healthier relationships, and meaningful change.
