Great to meet you!

Are you wondering how your alcohol or drug use might be affecting your life and if there are other options besides quitting?

I'm Dr. Josie Tracy, a psychologist who specializes in treating substance use issues using a harm reduction approach. I have over 16 years of experience helping clients with substance use and related struggles like anxiety, trauma, and depression. I personalize therapy to you and your goals, which is different from what might get in traditional "addiction" treatment with a "one-size-fits-all" approach. When working with me, you might reduce the harms of your substance use, reduce your use, or possibly quit. The choice is up to you!

In my free time, I love to watch movies, cook, sew, and spend time with my senior golden labrador, Buddy. In my volunteer work, I advocate for changes to state laws so that less wealthy people can have access to more resources like housing and income.

My approach to therapy

You are in the drivers' seat when it comes to the pace of therapy and what we work on. The good news is, you can start working on any goal and it will usually positively impact other areas of your life. Many people who rely on substances to cope may be "self-medicating" untreated mental health struggles like anxiety, depression, or posttraumatic stress. I can help you with these struggles too using evidence-based approaches using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Exposure Therapies, and Mindfulness-Based Therapies.

What you can expect from me

The therapy I offer is usually short-term (5-15 sessions) to make the best use of your time while maximizing your results. In our first session, I will take time to understand your personal story, your identities, and your goals. We will work together on a personalized plan, and I will give you some short assessments to complete so we can track your progress. I will also ask you to complete small tasks between sessions related to your goals. Research supports using all of these therapy elements to get the best results. I look forward to our work together!
