Great to meet you!

Dr. Joy Berkheimer is a licensed therapist and sexologist with a private practice, Renew Yourself With Joy LLC, serving individuals and couples in South Florida & California. She specializes in sexual health, relationships, identity, and women’s empowerment, supporting clients in developing deeper self-connection, confidence, and relational fulfillment.

Dr. Joy works primarily with women and couples navigating intimacy concerns, relationship transitions, self-worth, and desire—particularly during periods of change, awakening, or reinvention. Her work is grounded in helping clients cultivate an authentic relationship with themselves so they can engage in more aligned, nourishing partnerships.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Joy facilitates groups, classes, and educational experiences focused on relational health, embodiment, and conscious connection. She is the author of the 5-star rated book Why Won’t He Call?, and her work integrates therapeutic insight with practical tools that support lasting growth beyond the therapy room.

My approach to therapy

Dr. Joy’s approach to therapy is holistic, relational, and client-centered. She believes healing happens through safety, self-awareness, and a collaborative therapeutic relationship that honors each client’s lived experience. Dr. Joy creates a grounded, compassionate space where clients can explore emotions, identity, desire, and relationship patterns without judgment or pressure to “perform” healing.

Dr. Joy specializes in sexual health and wellness, intimacy, relationships, and personal empowerment. Her work draws from evidence-based therapeutic practices, a humanistic and strengths-based foundation, and body-aware approaches that support both emotional insight and embodied understanding. Sessions may include reflective dialogue, nervous-system awareness, values exploration, and practical tools for communication and intimacy.

In sessions, Dr. Joy supports clients navigating challenges related to desire, self-esteem, sexual identity, boundaries, and relational dynamics. Together, clients uncover underlying patterns, strengthen self-trust, and develop clearer language for wants, needs, and boundaries—both within relationships and with oneself.

Dr. Joy’s goal is to support clients in reconnecting with their inner clarity and capacity for pleasure, agency, and authentic connection. Therapy with her is not about fixing what is “wrong,” but about cultivating a more honest, integrated, and empowered way of living and relating.

Dr. Joy holds dual specialties in Marriage, Family & Couples Therapy and Mental Health Counseling from Barry University. She is a solo practitioner and has additional training in coaching psychology, positive psychology, and intuitive healing modalities. Her work with individuals and couples emphasizes self-discovery, relational repair, and sustainable growth—emotionally, relationally, and somatically.

What you can expect from me

In the first session, Dr. Joy focuses on creating a grounded, safe, and supportive space where clients can begin sharing their story at their own pace. This session is an opportunity to explore what brings you to therapy, what you’re currently navigating, and what you hope to gain from our work together—without pressure, judgment, or urgency to have everything figured out.

Dr. Joy will ask thoughtful questions to better understand your emotional landscape, relationship history, and areas of concern, while also helping you identify strengths, values, and patterns that may be impacting your well-being or intimacy. Together, you’ll begin clarifying goals for therapy and what support looks like for you.

Clients often leave the first session with a greater sense of clarity, relief, and self-understanding. You can expect to gain initial insights, feel more resourced, and begin developing language around needs, boundaries, and desires. When appropriate, Dr. Joy may offer practical reflections or tools to support emotional regulation, communication, or self-connection between sessions.

The first session is not about fixing or performing—it is about establishing safety, trust, and a foundation for meaningful therapeutic work moving forward.
