Great to meet you!

If you're carrying the weight of old wounds — replaying conversations at 2am, bracing for the next wave of anxiety, or watching the same painful patterns surface in your closest relationships — you don't have to keep white-knuckling through it alone. I'm Joyce, a Licensed Professional Counselor offering telehealth therapy to adults, teens, and adolescents across Florida and Connecticut. I specialize in trauma and PTSD, attachment wounds, anxiety, emotional regulation, and the relationship challenges that often grow out of them. Many of the clients I work with look capable and "fine" on the outside while quietly struggling with overwhelm, self-doubt, grief, anger they can't explain, or the lingering effects of hard early experiences. Some are navigating depression, the stress of major life transitions, or substance use they've leaned on to cope. As a trauma-informed therapist, I help you understand the "why" behind your emotions, behaviors, and nervous-system responses — so what once felt confusing or shameful starts to make sense. My work is grounded in evidence-based care and a steady belief that healing is possible, at a pace that always feels safe to you.

My approach to therapy

Therapy with me is warm, collaborative, and direct — you'll never be left guessing about what we're doing or why. My approach is attachment-based and trauma-informed, which means we look at how your earliest relationships and experiences shaped the patterns you're living out today. I draw on a range of evidence-based modalities and tailor them to you: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to shift unhelpful thought patterns, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for emotional regulation and distress tolerance, somatic interventions to address how stress and trauma live in the body, and psychoeducation so you understand your nervous system's responses. I also use Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, strength-based work, and expressive and art-therapy techniques for the moments when words alone aren't enough. Sessions are a true partnership: we set clear, meaningful goals, track progress together, and adjust as you grow. I believe people change not by being "fixed," but by feeling genuinely understood and gaining insight into the "why" behind their reactions. When you can meet yourself with compassion instead of criticism, lasting change becomes possible.

What you can expect from me

From our very first session, you can expect a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you set the pace. Early on, I focus on getting to know you — your current concerns, your history, your relationships, and what you most want therapy to change. Together we'll identify initial goals and practical coping strategies to support emotional regulation and stability right away. Over time, the clients I work with often describe feeling less ruled by anxiety, more in control of their emotions, and more confident setting boundaries. They start to recognize their patterns instead of being driven by them, and they meet hard moments with tools instead of overwhelm. My deepest hope is that you leave each session — starting with the first — feeling heard, understood, and genuinely hopeful that change is within reach. You don't have to have it all figured out to begin. Taking the first step is enough, and I'll be right there with you for the rest.
