Welcome! My name is Juanita and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I obtained my Master's Degree in Social Work from California State University, Chico. Additionally, I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, from Simpson University, in Redding, California. I have spent my career in serving rural populations in Northern California. My professional and personal life experience have given me a passion for feminism, social justice, and healing from religious trauma.
My approach to therapy tends to be conversational and Solution-Focused. I borrow some of my style of direct observations and irreverent humor from the Dialectical Behavior Therapy model. I also utilize Cognitive-Behavioral interventions to challenge negative beliefs.
Additionally, I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy, which I have found to be helpful in reducing the presentation of trauma activation symptoms in daily life.
Our first session will be spent getting to know you, building rapport, and discussing your history of mental health and any past treatment. I also utilize the first session to assist you in identifying your own treatment goals, using the solution-focused questions designed to visualize the outcomes you desire in treatment.
