Great to meet you!

I have been a clinical social worker for 40 years. I have an engaging style and am very interactive with my clients. I am very interested in getting to know the whole person - I feel strongly that my ability to offer help is based on how much I know about you! I will ask you about your family of origin, your current significant relationships, your medical history, your work, your leisure activities and anything else you want me to know at the beginning of our work together. I use humor in sessions when appropriate, and also am always eager to offer psychoeducation about an issue with which you might be dealing. I am very well read and am always happy to offer reading suggestions and other resources that I think you will find useful.

My approach to therapy

I have an undergraduate degree from Brandeis University with a psychology major. After college I worked in the mental health field for seven years in a variety of treatment settings. I then went to Boston University for a Masters in Social Work and immediately went to work in a number of outpatient settings. Several years after getting my MSW, I returned to BU for a year long certificate program in Substance Abuse Counseling. I enjoy working with individuals with alcohol and cannabis use disorder as well as gambling and pornography addiction. In recent years I have also been focusing on the areas of aging, grief, loss and bereavement and I am a cancer informed therapist. I also have experience working with adult adoptees who may be exploring adoption and related identity issues in their current life. I am available for couples' and marital therapy as well.

What you can expect from me

In the first session I will ask you what brings you to therapy now, past experience with therapy, who are the significant people in your life, family of origin history, medical history, and what do you like to do in your free time! This may seem like alot of information for one appointment, but I promise you that this will help me get to know you as best I can in a short period of time. I usually suggest 2 or 3 sessions so you can tell if you think we are a good match!
