Great to meet you!

Hello! My name is Julia Ontiveros. I am a dual-certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). I have been a nurse for 16 years, beginning my career as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in 2009. I worked in acute care for six years before deciding to further my education.

I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing Science from West Texas A&M University in 2016. Afterward, I returned to complete my Master's in Nursing Science with my FNP in 2020, also from West Texas A&M University.

I began my practice at Covenant West Texas Family Medicine Clinic shortly after graduating and soon noticed a shortage of mental health providers for my patients. This need prompted me to take on the psychiatrist role for many of my patients. Consequently, I decided to further my education by pursuing a postgraduate certification in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing (PMHNP) at West Texas A&M University.

My approach to therapy

I take an integrative approach to psychiatric care, combining Western medicine with nonconventional methods. This includes recommending natural therapies, such as herbal treatments, either on their own or alongside prescribed medications. I focus on evaluating the individual as a whole, rather than merely addressing a collection of symptoms. I believe it is essential for providers to listen to their patients in order to understand their unique needs.

What you can expect from me

If I could emphasize one key takeaway for my patients from our sessions, it would be the importance of feeling empowered. My goal is to help them navigate challenging situations and overcome obstacles so they can achieve success as individuals. In addition to empowerment, I want my patients to know that their provider genuinely cares and is actively advocating for their well-being.
