Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Julie Atencio, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I know it can be difficult to reach out for support, especially when you’re used to handling things on your own. I want to offer a space where you can speak openly, feel heard, and explore what matters to you.

I hold a Master of Social Work and am currently pursuing my Doctor of Social Work at the University of Kentucky. My background includes more than 25 years in social services, with experience in mental health and substance use treatment, crisis intervention, and supporting individuals and families through difficult circumstances. I also teach social work at teh college level, which keeps me connected to learning and preparing future professionals.

I work with adults navigating mental health concerns, substance use, relationship challenges, and life changes. My approach is warm, practical, and collaborative. Together, we can build on your strengths, find ways to manage challenges, and work toward changes that fit your life and goals. Even when change feels difficult, small steps can open the door to new possibilities.

My approach to therapy

My approach is strengths-based, supportive, and empowering. I take time to understand your experiences, recognize the strengths you already have, and explore what you want to change. I believe you are the expert on your own life, and we’ll work together to build skills and find solutions that fit your needs and goals.

I specialize in substance use treatment, anxiety, depression, and trauma. My style is warm, collaborative, and practical, with room for honest conversations about what you’re going through. We’ll move at a pace that respects your comfort while helping you develop coping strategies, understand patterns, and take meaningful steps forward. My goal is to help you feel heard and supported as you build confidence in yourself and your choices.

What you can expect from me

In our first session, you can expect a warm, welcoming space where you can share without fear of judgment. We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, what you’re hoping for, and any questions you have. You don’t need to have everything organized or know exactly where to start.

I’ll take time to learn about your concerns, your strengths, and what matters most to you. Together, we’ll begin identifying goals that feel meaningful and manageable, whether that means coping with anxiety or depression, addressing substance use, or working through the effects of trauma. My hope is that you leave feeling heard, more comfortable with the process, and encouraged about our next steps.
