Great to meet you!

avigating emotional distress or long-standing conflict can feel like being fractured, but healing often begins with finding a reliable and experienced partner. I am Dr. Julie Cohen, a Clinical Psychologist with over 45 years of experience. I have spent my career helping individuals, couples, and families resolve conflict—whether it’s occurring in the living room or the workplace. I specialize in treating depression, anxiety, and stress, particularly for those who are ready to dive into their inner experience to improve how they feel about themselves and their relationships. I feel privileged to help my clients achieve their goals and improve their lives by providing the expert, seasoned care necessary to handle even the most complex challenges with precision and kindness.

I believe that the foundation of our work is a relationship of absolute trust and safety. My extensive training allows me to look at your life through a wide lens, understanding how your past experiences and upbringing shape your current personality and challenges. I encourage an honest and direct dialogue, as that is where true mutual understanding begins. When I am not working with clients, I value the perspective that comes from a long career dedicated to human behavior, often finding restoration in the very principles of balance and growth that I share in my sessions. I want my clients to feel safe and empowered during their time with me, knowing they have a safety net of four decades of clinical expertise behind them.

My approach to therapy

My approach is kind, sincere, and rooted in the belief that effective therapy requires a concrete plan. I rely on several different theories to meet your unique needs, with a central focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help modify the irrational thoughts that often drive emotional upset. By examining the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and conflicts, we can work together to lessen your symptoms and find a more successful path forward. I hope that my clients will be able to positively grow while working together by replacing unhelpful patterns with strategies that foster clarity and resilience.

In addition to CBT, I incorporate psychodynamic treatment to explore how your history influences your present, providing a more holistic understanding of your concerns. I am a firm believer in collaboration and will often involve other professionals or family members when their expertise can supplement our work. We will focus on establishing clear, achievable goals from the very beginning, ensuring that our time together is always outcome-focused and supportive of the changes you want to see.

What you can expect from me

Our first hour is about turning down the noise of the outside world so we can focus entirely on what has been weighing on you. We will spend our time untangling the specific concerns and symptoms that brought you in, moving at a pace that feels natural to you. This initial session is dedicated to getting to know you, exploring your history, your current circumstances, and the reasons you are seeking support.

Think of our first meeting as the beginning of a direct, honest dialogue where your experiences are the primary focus. By the end of the session, we will have begun sketching out a working plan and identifying the initial goals that will lead us toward success.
