Julie Thompson

Hello! And welcome!. My name is Julie Thompson and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have been licensed for the past four years but have been in the mental health field for over 20 years. A great deal of my work has been with under-served populations, in a rural area. However, in the later years of my career, I have broadened the populations that I work with, to nursing home facilities and an online platform with a variety of people. I have a strong background working with those who have had legal issues as a result of substance abuse. I also have a heavy background in crisis intervention.

In therapy you and I are the team. Not only do I have to get to know you, but you also have to get to know me. I like to ensure that you are comfortable and that you are free to share whatever you would like. I also like to laugh when able to, because these are tough things and sometimes you just have to laugh. Cognitive behavioral therapy is my favorite technique because our thoughts are what control much of what happens in our life.

During our first session, we will get to know each other through the completion of an assessment. This will be the foundation for our therapy. We will discuss your history with any physical illnesses, mental illnesses, social and family factors in your life, spirituality and employment. All of these factors are crucial to developing the full picture needed to help you confront and conquer what we are working on.
