Great to meet you!

Hello, my name is Kai Green. I am a mental health professional, therapist, professor, and Program Director with extensive experience serving children, youth, families, and communities. I have a professional background in clinical mental health services, child welfare, community-based care, and Wraparound services. As Program Director of clinical services, I provide leadership and clinical oversight while promoting family-centered, strengths-based, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed practices.

I also serve as a professor, teaching courses in psychology, developmental psychology, multicultural issues, and LMFT practicum and clinical practice. My clinical experience integrates academic research with real-world clinical and community experience, encouraging clients to examine culture, social systems, ethics, and how it impacts clients lived experiences of them and their families.

My professional interests include culturally responsive mental health practice, child and family development, trauma and resilience, clinical supervision, workforce development, and improving access to community-based behavioral health services.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and culturally responsive. I believe clients should feel heard, respected, and comfortable bringing their whole selves into the therapeutic relationship. I work from a strengths-based and trauma-informed perspective, helping clients recognize their existing strengths while developing practical strategies to manage challenges and create meaningful change.

My clinical work focuses on children, adolescents, adults, and families experiencing emotional, behavioral, relational, and life-transition challenges. I have particular experience working with families involved in child welfare and community-based behavioral health services, as well as individuals navigating trauma, family relationships, identity, stress, and resilience.

I also consider the impact of culture, family, community, and social systems on a person's experiences. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, I work with each client to understand their goals, values, and circumstances and develop a treatment approach that feels relevant to their life. My goal is to create a therapeutic space where clients can be authentic, build on their strengths, and feel empowered to move forward.

What you can expect from me

I strive to create a warm, welcoming, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel safe being honest about their experiences. My goal is to build a genuine therapeutic relationship based on trust, respect, collaboration, and cultural understanding.

Together, we identify meaningful and realistic goals based on what the client wants to change or improve. Goals may include developing healthier coping skills, improving relationships and communication, strengthening self-esteem, processing difficult or traumatic experiences, managing stress and emotions, increasing resilience, and building confidence in making decisions and navigating life challenges.

I want clients to leave therapy with a greater understanding of themselves, practical tools they can use in everyday life, and a stronger sense of hope and personal agency. My approach is collaborative, so clients are active participants in determining what progress looks like for them.
