Great to meet you!

Hi! I'm Kalene. I help those who find it easy to be compassionate toward others but struggle with self-compassion. I work with perfectionists, people-pleasers, and overthinkers who feel burnt out from always being "on" and trying to meet impossible expectations. These expectations may be self-inflicted, or come from an overload of responsibilities, such as being a caregiver, parent, help professional, public figure, or family leader. I have specialized training and experience in supporting survivors of sexual trauma and those in the Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi American (APIDA) community. I help people build a greater sense of self-compassion through traditional 1:1 therapy, and reset their overactive nervous system through integrative neurofeedback/biofeedback.

My approach to therapy

My style is more conversational than structured. I'm naturally curious, which helps me get to know you and your situation as much as possible so that my guidance and feedback is highly personalized. I often use two major approaches; one is 'Mindful Self-Compassion', which helps us focus on where you can be kinder to yourself, set healthier boundaries, and quiet the inner critic. The other is neuroscience-based. I can incorporate neurofeedback to help you have more balanced, calm brain activity, or we can keep it conversational--I use my neuroscience background to help you understand your own unique nervous system more, better detect its signals, and "speak its language" so your coping skills actually match what your nervous system is asking for.

What you can expect from me

Our first session will be our "intake assessment" during which I ask a bunch of questions about your background and what brings you to therapy. This helps us get on the same page of what you'd like to work on in therapy. While I have my set list of questions, you are always welcome to share as much or as little as you'd like in our first session. My hope is to create a warm and welcoming environment for you. It's also a chance for you to figure out what you think about my vibe, and whether you are up for continuing ongoing therapy with me. If it feels like we're not a match, it's okay! I am happy to provide referrals so you can find the best fit.
