Great to meet you!

I run Simply JST Counseling alongside my full-time work as a school counselor — which means I come to every therapy session with eyes wide open about what adolescents and young adults are actually dealing with, not just what gets reported in an intake form.

I'm a Black female LPC trained at Virginia State University, and I bring cultural awareness to my work — especially for clients navigating identity, community expectations, and the particular challenges of being a young person figuring things out in today's world. I work with adolescents, adults, and seniors on anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, grief, substance use, and the complicated work of knowing yourself.

My approach is direct and warm — I hold you accountable and I hold space for you at the same time.

My approach to therapy

Clients often describe me as genuine, warm, and direct. I believe therapy should feel both supportive and appropriately challenging — not just a space to vent, but a place where real movement happens.

I bring accountability, curiosity, and compassion to each session. I pay close attention to patterns, remember important details, and gently explore moments when your actions, thoughts, or goals may not align. I also recognize the importance of silence and reflection, allowing space for processing when needed.

I draw on ACT to help you clarify your values and develop flexibility with difficult thoughts, CBT to address the patterns driving anxiety and depression, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy to keep us oriented toward where you're going. My goal is to help you gain insight, build practical skills, and create meaningful change — all while bringing authenticity, warmth, and humor to the process.

What you can expect from me

The first session is about getting to know each other and determining whether we're a good fit. We'll talk about your background, current concerns, strengths, and what you're hoping changes.

I focus on building rapport before we dive into the harder stuff — so the first session is more exploratory than heavy. Together, we'll start to shape goals that feel meaningful and a plan that works for your actual life. Therapy moves at the pace that's right for you.
