Great to meet you!

Kara Shaw is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker who has been providing trauma-informed care to youth and their caregivers since 2015, as both a clinician, and a clinical supervisor. Kara currently provides individual telehealth services to youth, teens, and adults in Massachusetts. Kara's ideal clients are individuals who are parenting children with behavioral health needs, as well as those who are seeking support around managing Anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, and life in general.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is laid back and casual. I tend to use a lot of humor, metaphors, and movie references in my work, and am a firm believer that sometimes we just need to laugh to get us through the rough stuff. I’m here to help you to learn new skills to manage your symptoms, and help you understand how your personal story, and perhaps the story of your family, has contributed to the ways you think, feel, react, respond, and express yourself.

What you can expect from me

We will work together to help you feel more in control of the way you care for your children and/or yourself. My hope is that over time, we can build a trusting therapeutic relationship where you feel understood and validated, and you leave each session feeling increasingly hopeful. As a first generation college graduate from a blue collar family, I strive to create a relaxed environment where you feel empowered to be yourself, be sweary if you need to, and not feel smothered by clinical jargon.
