Great to meet you!

Most people don't come to therapy because everything is going well — so the first thing I want you to know is that you don't need a perfect explanation for being here. I'm Kara, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 15 years of experience supporting individuals and families through anxiety, depression, life transitions, family conflict, and the kind of stress that builds up when you've been carrying too much for too long.

I earned my MSW from Simmons School of Social Work in 2010 and spent 15 years at Aspire Health Alliance serving the south shore community as an In-Home Therapist — working directly with families inside their daily lives, often during their hardest moments. That experience shapes how I show up today: practical, grounded, and unafraid of complicated family dynamics or messy real-world situations.

I recently opened my private practice to expand who I can reach. I work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship challenges, and parenting stress. My style is solution-focused and forward-looking — less concerned with rehashing the past, more focused on building tools and momentum for the life you want now.

My approach to therapy

My approach is solution-focused, present-tense, and practical. I meet you where you are right now — not where you were ten years ago — and we work from there. That doesn't mean we pretend the past doesn't matter. It means our energy goes toward what you can do something about today.

I draw primarily from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help connect what you're thinking, feeling, and doing — so the patterns that have been running on autopilot become visible enough to actually change. I also use expressive arts: role play, writing, and visual creativity. These approaches reach the parts of us that don't always have words yet.

What stays consistent: I'll be direct, I'll be respectful, and I'll keep the work pointed forward.

What you can expect from me

During the first session, I hand you the mic. The time is yours to share why you're here and why now — at whatever pace, in whatever order, with however much detail feels right. I'll listen, ask questions, and start to understand both what you're navigating now and what kind of work might actually help.

By the end, we'll have an early sense of what we'd focus on together — whether that's building tools for anxiety, breaking patterns that keep showing up in relationships, finding more steadiness through a transition, or simply having a space that's reliably yours each week.

There's no pressure to commit beyond that first conversation. If we're a fit, we'll keep going. If we're not, I'll help you find a therapist who is.
