Great to meet you!

Hi, I'm Dr. Karen Frederick--but, I'm not A "Karen". I'm a licensed professional counselor in Texas, and I believe people are stronger than anxiety, depression, grief, or trauma that brought them here. My style blends genuine compassion with a gentle challenge to help you see new possibilities. Faith is part of how I show up for many clients. I'd love to talk with you, pray with you, and work with you on helping you find solutions to the difficulties life brings your way.

My approach to therapy

In our first session, I get to know your story: your strengths, the people in your life, and what's going on for you right now, and we set some goals together. From there we use practical tools like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help you make room for hard feelings instead of fighting them, Motivational Interviewing to build momentum toward the changes you actually want, Narrative Therapy to help you rewrite the story anxiety or grief has been telling about you, and Solution Focused work to keep sessions moving toward real progress. Expect some anxiety-reducing exercises, journaling, and homework between sessions.

What you can expect from me

Our first session is about getting to know each other. I'll ask about what's going on, the people and strengths in your corner, and what you're hoping will be different. We'll leave with a few goals so you know what you're working toward. You can expect a warm, judgment-free space where you're met with compassion, and when it's helpful, a gentle push. Many clients tell me they leave sessions feeling like their strengths, not just their struggles, are what's driving the work.
