Great to meet you!

Hi, I'm Counselor Kay (Karen Stevens). I received full licensure as a therapist in 2021, but I have nearly forty years of experience working with families in a state agency and public schools. As a former juvenile probation officer and public-school counselor, I am well-acquainted with family concerns.

As a full-time school counselor, I worked part-time for ten years as a clinical counselor, first as an associate and then obtaining fully licensure. I worked with young people and adults facing depression/anxiety and parent/child conflicts. I counsel individuals and families utilizing a family systems approach.

I aim to help you meet with "Triumph and Disaster and treat those two imposters just the same" (From the poem IF by Rudyard Kipling)

My approach to therapy

If you focus too much on the past, you risk depression; if you focus too much on the future, you risk anxiety. Concentrating on the highs and lows of life can keep you on a rollercoaster, causing you to lose your balance. I aim to help you focus on the present and find balance.

I primarily utilize solution-focused and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) modalities while remaining open to an eclectic approach that supports the needs to be met.

Life is a journey, and I hope to help you appreciate all the lessons, learn from them, and grow with them.

What you can expect from me

At the end of our time together, I hope you will evoke the Invictus creed that “you are the master of your fate and the captain of your soul.”

Let Counselor Kay help you find your Way.
