Great to meet you!

I'm Karen Trahan, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor working with clients across Florida through telehealth. I specialize in trauma, PTSD, depression, bipolar disorder, addiction, and women's mental health — and I work with adolescents, adults, and seniors. My style is warm but direct. I don't believe in talking around the hard stuff, but I also don't believe in pushing faster than you're ready to go. I use a mix of CBT, psychodynamic approaches, motivational interviewing, and art therapy — because different people need different tools. If you've been through things you haven't fully processed, or if you feel stuck in patterns you can't quite break, that's exactly where I come in.

My approach to therapy

I believe that most of what we struggle with makes sense when we understand where it comes from. My work is grounded in curiosity — not judgment. I draw on cognitive-behavioral therapy to help you identify and shift patterns, psychodynamic work to explore deeper roots, and motivational interviewing when you're ambivalent about change (which is more common than most people admit). I also incorporate art therapy, which might sound unusual over telehealth — but it's remarkably effective for people who find it easier to express something visually than verbally. Strength-based throughout, I focus on what's working, not just what isn't.

What you can expect from me

Expect our first session to feel more like a real conversation than an intake form. I'll ask about what brought you here, what's been getting in the way, and what you're hoping changes. There's no agenda beyond understanding where you are. You won't leave with a treatment plan on day one — you'll leave knowing what working together could look like and whether it feels like the right fit. Most clients tell me the first session felt easier than they expected. I offer daytime and evening telehealth appointments across Florida, and I work with most major insurance plans to keep therapy accessible.
