Kari Story

Hi! I'm so glad you're here. I have been a LPC-MHSP in TN for over 2 years, and have a long history of mental health training and experience prior to that. I have lived all over - Guam, NE, CO, IL - and bring my love for learning and connecting with people to each aspect of my life. With curiosity and empathy I have been able to grow my professional experiences to include practicing in community mental health settings, inpatient hospitals, collaborative care environments, and now in private practice. I enjoy the freedom and autonomy in which private practice offers, as it allows me to meet each client where they are and adjust our treatment goals as needed.

Therapy can seem intimidating, but I am here to help meet you where you are and tailor my approach to what fits your needs best. I have specializations in trauma/crisis and addictions, and have training in EMDR. I utilize continued education and training resources from multiple perspectives, including DBT skills, person-centered approaches, and parts work to help better understand my clients and help them achieve their goals. Some clients prefer to have therapist-led sessions and questions, while others are more comfortable leading the way. To ensure you reach your goals most effectively, I adjust the interventions and strategies based upon the needs of my clients.

It's my passion to create a warm, compassionate environment in all of our sessions, but especially the first because I know it can be daunting to start something like this. I frequently use humor and enjoy not taking myself too seriously. My approach to goal setting and outcomes includes a patient, person-centered tone to ensure you feel safe, seen, and understood as we navigate the initial assessment and therapeutic relationship.
