Great to meet you!

My name is Karissa and I am trained in DBT - dialectical behavioral therapy. I have a license in marriage and child therapy however I tend to work more with individuals (teens and adults) who struggle with high intensity emotions, self harming and suicidal ideation. I received my license in 2018 however I have been working in the field since 2007, doing life skills, parenting etc until I got licensed and built my own practice. I do both in-person sessions and telehealth.

My approach to therapy

I like using DBT because it actually teaches skills rather than just the general concepts. DBT acknowledges the battles we face within ourselves and teaching skills to understand mindfulness instead of "being in the moment". DBT also includes specific skills around distress tolerance, emotional regulation and interpersonal effectiveness ( boundaries and fairness for self and others). these skills are built to help battle self harming and suicidal ideation however helps with all things.

What you can expect from me

I am a blunt individual who believes in teaching to better the situation rather than constantly going over what happened. "What can we do to move you forward and not be stuck anymore". I teach about the brain and how it works, I teach a skill so you have something to help when you get stressed throughout the week. we track you thoughts and behaviors to gain understanding so you have the ability to change it, as wanted.
