Great to meet you!

I’m Dr. KJ Foster, a licensed mental health counselor specializing in anxiety, depression, OCD, body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs), PTSD, trauma, and recovery from substance use and compulsive behaviors. I use evidence-based approaches including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Habit Reversal Training (HRT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based strategies. I work with individuals who feel stuck in cycles of overthinking, fear, or unwanted habits, and want to create meaningful, lasting change.

My approach is structured, supportive, and focused on helping you build practical tools to move forward with confidence.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is structured, goal-oriented, and grounded in evidence-based practices, including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Habit Reversal Training (HRT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based interventions. I focus on helping clients change unhelpful patterns of thinking and behavior, reduce avoidance, and build tolerance for discomfort. Sessions are skills-focused and designed to support measurable progress, particularly for those struggling with anxiety, OCD, body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs), and compulsive behaviors.

What you can expect from me

In our first session, you can expect a structured yet collaborative conversation focused on understanding your concerns, goals, and what’s been keeping you feeling stuck. We’ll review relevant history, identify key patterns, and begin clarifying what meaningful progress looks like for you. I’ll guide the process while also inviting your input, so we can create a plan that feels both clear and personalized. I’ll also explain how I work—including the approaches we’ll use, so you know what to expect moving forward. My goal is for you to leave the first session feeling heard, understood, and with a clearer sense of direction and next steps.
