Great to meet you!

I’m Dr. Katalin Reszegi, a clinical psychologist and Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at UC San Diego and Clinical Psychologist at VA San Diego Healthcare System. Since 2004, I’ve supported individuals through life’s most challenging moments with a blend of compassion, clinical expertise, and evidence-based care. Over the course of my career, I have served as a Staff Psychologist, Postdoctoral Fellow, educator, and researcher - roles that have deepened my understanding of the complex interplay between psychological, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

My foundation in education continues to shape my therapeutic approach, which integrates empirically supported practices with mindfulness, third-wave therapies, and Zen Buddhist principles. I believe in the power of transformation through connection to nature, consciousness, and the life force within each of us. I specialize in treating depression, anxiety, PTSD, complex trauma, OCD, grief, moral injury, and end-of-life transitions, with extensive experience working with veterans, first responders, and others facing profound psychological stress.

My work is grounded in the belief that healing is not only about alleviating symptoms but also about fostering resilience, growth, and deeper meaning - helping clients move toward a state of wholeness and self-actualization.

My approach to therapy

My therapeutic style is integrative, trauma-informed, and rooted in evidence-based practice. I blend modern psychotherapies with mindfulness, Zen Buddhist principles, and, when appropriate, nature-based practices to create a holistic and personalized healing experience. I help clients identify and shift unhelpful patterns, align their actions with personal values, build emotional regulation and interpersonal skills, and explore deeper dimensions of meaning, purpose, and spirituality. I believe therapy is not only about symptom relief, but also about fostering resilience, self-discovery, and a renewed sense of wholeness.

Therapy with me begins with a comprehensive 60-minute initial session where we review your mental health history, explore your goals, and collaboratively create a personalized treatment plan. This includes a diagnostic formulation, identification of therapeutic priorities, and selection of approaches that best match your needs. Follow-up sessions are 50 minutes and are designed to be goal-oriented, collaborative, and paced to meet your readiness for change.

What you can expect from me

Our work together is a safe, compassionate, and collaborative space for deep exploration, healing, and growth. Many clients find that their therapy journey lasts between three and six months, while those with more complex or long-standing challenges may benefit from longer-term work to ensure lasting transformation.

Clients often leave our work together with increased clarity about their patterns, strengths, and challenges; practical coping skills and strategies to manage distress; a deeper connection to meaning, purpose, and values; renewed confidence in their ability to navigate life’s challenges; and a sense of wholeness and self-compassion that endures well beyond therapy. My goal is for you to feel supported, empowered, and equipped to carry your healing forward into every part of your life.
