Great to meet you!

Hi - I am a PhD clinical psychologist licensed in both South Carolina and Tennessee and have been practicing for over 25 years. I have mainly worked with adolescents ages 11 - 25 and their families, and also with adults. I use variations of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Humanistic approaches, but I aim to use whatever is most effective for your given issue(s). My current areas of focus are (1) adolescents and their families, and if needed I can attend IEP / 504 meetings to help youth receive individualized services. (2) the Autistic (Level 1), both adolescents and adults. I often work with those who are newly diagnosed with autism or have not been formally diagnosed (typically adults and females). (3) the LGBTQI+ community. I am a vocal supporter and I also write letters for those wanting medical transition, based on WPATH and insurance guidelines. These three areas are not the full extent of my interests and experience. Please feel free to contact me to see if I might be a good match for what you need.

My approach to therapy

My primary focus is to build a trusting relationship, so that you feel safe enough to discuss information that may be difficult for you. If you had therapy before, I may ask what you liked and did not like, and remain mindful of your preferences. While we may review some of the past, our primary focus will be on the here and now, and what can be done to address your primary concerns. I remain appraised of the current evidence base and policy statements of the American Psychological Association. I want the you to receive the best service possible during our allotted time.. Currently I am only conducting telehealth therapy, but research has shown that outcomes are the same, whether in-person or by video. There also are many conveniences of telehealth for the consumer.

What you can expect from me

I like to offer a brief consultation by phone before the first session in order to make sure that what I have to offer is what you need. I encourage you to email me so we can set up the consultation and then if we are a "go," we'll schedule an initial session soon after. In our first session, I check in to see how you are feeling and am open to humor to lighten the atmosphere. I will have reviewed your intake form closely and will ask follow-up questions to make sure I am clear about what you are needing. While we set some initial goals, I always try to make sure that you have at least one concern resolved in the initial session.
