Hi, my name is Kate and I am a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist. I have been in the mental health field since 2008, and love the work. My husband, daughter and I moved to Florida 6 years ago from CT, and we love it here! My education background was in CT, and I worked for several non-profits there.
I like the MFT approach because it looks systemically at the client, their family, community, friends, career and how they affect the client and the client affects them as well. To me, this makes a lot more sense than just focusing on the individual.
I like to be open and flexible to meet the client's needs. I am always happy to adjust my approach if the client is needing more or less of anything. The top modalities I use are: CBT, Solution Focused Therapy and Relational.
I usually start the first session by learning a little about the person and what they think is important for me to know. More than anything, I am trying to build rapport and have the new client feel comfortable.
