Great to meet you!

Hi there! My name is Katherine Lozano, MCMHC, LPC. There are times in life when we can all benefit from having someone by our side, whether we are navigating difficult life transitions, healing from painful experiences, struggling in relationships, feeling stuck in patterns that no longer serve us, or simply wanting to understand ourselves more deeply. Therapy can offer a space to explore these experiences without judgment or criticism while gaining insight into the emotions and experiences that shape who we are.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor dedicated to helping individuals learn more about themselves and uncover barriers that may be preventing them from living a more fulfilling and authentic life. I believe that many of the behaviors we struggle with are symptoms of deeper emotional experiences rather than the core issue itself. My goal is to help clients better understand their inner world, increase self-awareness, and create meaningful and lasting change.

I work with children, young adults, adults, parents, single parents, and older adults experiencing challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, life transitions, relationship difficulties, infertility, work-related stress, substance abuse, cultural adaptation and immigration concerns, racial identity, and emotional struggles. I also work with individuals who simply want to explore themselves in a supportive and non-judgmental space.

My role is to provide a space where clients feel heard, respected, and comfortable exploring the things that weigh on them. I believe therapy should be a place where people can openly discuss anything, including concerns or discomfort about the therapeutic relationship itself, as these conversations can become an important part of the healing process.

My approach to therapy

While I take a holistic approach to therapy, my work is deeply rooted in a psychodynamic and psychoanalytic framework. My focus is on helping clients explore their inner world, increase self-awareness, and uncover unconscious patterns that may influence their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and relationships.

In our work together, we will explore the underlying emotions, experiences, and relational dynamics that shape the way you respond to yourself and the world around you. I believe that by bringing the unconscious into awareness, clients can begin to better understand themselves, confront fears, and identify internal barriers that may be preventing them from living more fulfilling lives.

Rather than focusing only on immediate symptoms or behaviors, I aim to understand the deeper emotional experiences connected to them. Through this process, clients can begin making more conscious choices, develop healthier relationships, and experience more meaningful and lasting change.

I also understand that every client and every therapeutic journey is different. Goals may evolve over time as clients grow, gain new insights, and develop a deeper understanding of themselves. My role is to support that process while remaining attentive to what feels most important and meaningful to each client.

What you can expect from me

The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and begin building a foundation for our work together. I will likely ask questions about what brought you to therapy, your current concerns, and what you hope to gain from the process. This helps me better understand your needs and determine how I can best support you.

If this is your first experience with therapy, I will also explain what the therapeutic process may look like and review important information such as confidentiality, boundaries, and expectations within the therapeutic relationship. My goal is to help you feel informed, comfortable, and supported as we begin.

I also encourage clients to pay attention to how they feel within the therapeutic space. Therapy is a very personal experience, and it is important that you feel heard, respected, and safe. I welcome open conversations about the therapeutic relationship itself, including moments of discomfort, uncertainty, or concerns that may arise throughout the process. Sometimes, these discussions can become meaningful opportunities for growth and deeper self-understanding.

Above all, clients can expect a space where they can speak openly without fear of judgment while exploring themselves with curiosity, honesty, and support.
