Kathleen Poissot

My name is Kathy and I have had an interesting life in that I have lived and worked in Germany, Guam, and many states as a Substance Use D/O Professional (SUDP), School Guidance Counselor, Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), and Military Family Life Counselor (MFLC) among others. My style is a good fit for people dealing with the stressors of life transitions in a crazy, busy life. This can often take the form of anxiety, depression, stress, and addiction disorders, among others.

My approach to therapy varies based on what you bring to the session. I want to find out what is holding you back from the life you want to live. I want you to share what you think and feel, so we can work together to untangle the different pieces of the puzzle. I love the AHA (lightbulb) moment when people discover something that makes them see/feel what might be possible. I often use CBT, DBT, Solution-focused therapy, and Motivational Interviewing counseling in my work with individuals.

You can expect to take away a sense that you were seen, heard, and supported, which is important in the process of getting to know each other. I hope that I will help you build trust and begin the process of figuring out what this therapy is all about, and what it can clarify for you in the process of changing. I also hope that something in the course of the session makes you smile, as this one act, can begin the process of feeling better.
