Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Kathryn MacDonald, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 5 years of experience helping teens and adults navigate anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship challenges, and life transitions. I understand that life can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially when you’re managing chronic health conditions, navigating difficult relationships, or trying to find a sense of balance while carrying so much internally. You may find yourself feeling disconnected from who you are, struggling to manage stress, or trying to make sense of experiences that have left you feeling stuck. Wherever you are in your journey, you deserve a space where you feel understood, supported, and empowered to make meaningful changes. My approach is warm, holistic, and grounded in meeting you where you are, helping you reconnect with your strengths, develop greater self-awareness, and move toward a life that feels more balanced and fulfilling.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and centered on understanding you as a whole person, including the experiences, relationships, and challenges that have shaped your life. Together, we’ll explore how anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, and stress may be affecting your emotional well-being while building practical tools to help you feel more grounded and connected to yourself. I may use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you recognize unhelpful thought patterns and develop healthier ways of responding to difficult emotions, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help you navigate challenging experiences while staying connected to your values, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to explore different parts of yourself with greater understanding and compassion. Mindfulness-based approaches and somatic techniques can help you become more aware of the connection between your mind and body, manage stress, and develop a greater sense of safety and balance. Narrative Therapy may help you explore the stories you carry about yourself and your experiences, while Emotion Focused Therapy can support you in understanding your emotions and strengthening meaningful relationships. My holistic perspective, informed by a background in yoga, allows me to consider both emotional and physical well-being as we work together. Our sessions will be a space where you can feel heard, explore what matters most to you, and develop tools that support meaningful, lasting change at a pace that feels right for you.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and explore what has brought you to therapy. We’ll talk about what you’ve been experiencing, the challenges you’re facing, and what you hope to gain from our work together. You don’t need to have everything figured out before we begin. We’ll take time to understand what matters most to you and identify goals that feel realistic, personal, and meaningful. As we continue, you can expect a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where you can speak openly, feel heard, and explore your experiences at your own pace. Together, we’ll work on recognizing patterns, building coping skills, and developing a deeper understanding of your emotions, relationships, and needs. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, healing from difficult experiences, managing stress related to chronic health concerns, or working toward greater balance in your life, you won’t have to figure everything out on your own. My goal is to help you feel more connected to yourself, recognize your strengths, and build confidence in your ability to navigate life's challenges. Therapy is a collaborative process, and we’ll work together to find an approach that feels supportive, practical, and meaningful to you.
