Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Kayla Acevedo, a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist and Board-Certified Art Therapist. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Mount Saint Mary College and my master’s degree in Art Therapy and Counseling from Long Island University. My professional experience includes providing individual and group therapy to children, adolescents, and adults in private-practice and community-based settings.

My approach to therapy

My approach is compassionate, person-centered, trauma-informed, and collaborative. I integrate traditional talk therapy with art therapy and other creative techniques to help clients express emotions, develop insight, reconnect with themselves, and create meaningful change. You do not need to consider yourself an artist to benefit from art therapy. Our work will be shaped around your individual comfort, needs, and goals. I also aim to make therapy accessible and offer a sliding-scale fee based on financial need when available .

What you can expect from me

During our first session, you can expect a warm, welcoming, and nonjudgmental space where we can begin getting to know one another. We will discuss what brought you to therapy, the challenges you are currently experiencing, your personal history, and what you hope to gain from our work together. You will also have an opportunity to ask questions and share any concerns or preferences you have about the therapy process.

Depending on your comfort level, the session may include conversation, art-making, or a combination of both. No artistic experience is necessary, and you will never be pressured to create or share more than you are ready for. My goal is to create a collaborative, culturally responsive, and affirming environment where you feel heard, respected, and supported as we determine whether working together feels like the right fit.
