Great to meet you!

Kayla Dockins graduated with her doctorate in clinical psychology with an emphasis in working with children, families, and couples. She specializes in trauma, anxiety-related disorders, relationship concerns, and identity concerns with individuals of all ages. She has worked with clients with a wide-variety of concerns, using creativity and empathy to ensure clients unique needs are met. Dr. Kayla does not take a "one size fits all" approach, and instead takes the time to explore what might work best with each client. She has specific training in EMDR, Emotion Focused Therapy, Family Therapy, Couples Therapy, and mindfulness/relaxation techniques. She works hard to ensure her clients feel safe and comfortable in sessions, helping individuals feel empowered to take an active role in their mental health care.

My approach to therapy

Dr. Kayla focuses on taking a collaborative approach to therapy. She has a strong desire to ensure anyone seeking therapy feels valued and understood as well as supported throughout their therapeutic journey. She understands that seeking mental health services can be a scary and vulnerable experience. However, she works closely to make sure clients are comfortable and confident in the care they are receiving. Each client seeking mental health services has a unique story and reason for entering therapy. With that, Dr. Kayla understands that clients need approaches tailored to them. She considers all of the systemic, personal, and cultural factors that impact a client's life. She works closely with clients (and their families as needed) to create treatment plans that meet personal needs.

What you can expect from me

Because she understands the hardest part of therapy is scheduling and attending the first visit, Dr. Kayla works first to build a healthy therapy relationship from the first session. Safety concerns will also be discussed before exploring all of the clinical concerns clients would like to address. Dr. Kayla also works to find ways to offer hope and reassurance from the beginning, so clients feel comfortable and confident to return each session,
