Great to meet you!

Hello! I’m Kayla O’Malley, LPCC-S. I spent my first 20 years in the corporate world and began my counseling journey in 2010 focusing on understanding what makes people resilient and how to tap into their strengths. People are amazingly strong and discovering your unique qualities can direct us to building a satisfying life that is not overwhelmed by past negative experiences. I have worked with trauma survivors, helped people get out of the grips of addiction, and tackled the runaway thoughts that cause depression, anxiety, and self-doubt. Together we can work towards developing the type of meaningful life you want and deserve. I focus on working with adults who report symptoms of complex trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, dissociative identity disorder; want to find solutions to conflicts in interpersonal relationships at home or work; manage emotional dysregulation; and cope with discrimination, finding acceptance, and the unique issues related to being a part of the LGBTQIA+ community.

My approach to therapy

I tend to rely on a combination of evidence-based therapies that utilize the individual’s personal

strengths and resilience factors from Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Brief Solution’s Focus, Narrative Therapy, and Polyvagal Therapy (mind body connection). These are customized and co-created with you to suit your needs. I often use Gottman Method Couples Therapy for Couple’s counseling.

What you can expect from me

The purpose of the first session is to get to know each other. I will ask questions to understand what brought you to therapy and answer any questions you have about me, the therapy process, and determine what you need to feel safe. We may explore your past history of successes and identify any potential obstacles. This will help to understand important issues that have an impact on your life today such as your support network, past and current physical and mental health, and positive aspects of your

environment that brings you joy and defines your values and priorities. If you feel comfortable that this is a good fit, we will then determine a schedule to begin the work.
