Great to meet you!

You may be feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, struggling with depression, managing anger, or finding it difficult to break free from patterns involving substance use. Perhaps stress has become a constant part of your life, or you've spent so much time trying to meet the expectations of others that you've lost sight of your own needs. Whatever you're experiencing, you deserve a space where you can be heard, understood, and supported without judgment. I'm Kedy Laurent, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida and a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist. My passion for mental health comes from recognizing how stigma, cultural expectations, and limited access to culturally sensitive care can prevent people from seeking the support they deserve. With a multicultural perspective and extensive clinical experience supporting individuals, couples, and families, I understand that your background, relationships, and lived experiences are important parts of your story. Whether you're navigating trauma, family challenges, relationship difficulties, or major life transitions, my goal is to help you feel empowered to make meaningful changes while honoring who you are.

My approach to therapy

Our work together will make room for your experiences, cultural background, relationships, and the challenges that have shaped your life. I take a collaborative, compassionate, and holistic approach to therapy, recognizing that no two people experience anxiety, depression, anger, substance use, or stress in exactly the same way. We'll explore how your thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and relationships may be influencing your well-being, while identifying practical ways to create lasting change. Through cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), we'll work on recognizing unhelpful thought patterns and developing healthier responses to difficult situations. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and mindfulness-based approaches can help you navigate uncomfortable emotions, build self-awareness, and make choices aligned with your values. Solution-focused therapy allows us to build on your existing strengths and identify achievable steps toward your goals, while motivational interviewing can help you explore uncertainty and strengthen your confidence in making changes. When relationships or family dynamics are part of the challenge, I also draw from family systems and narrative approaches to help you better understand these patterns and develop healthier connections. Above all, our sessions will move at a pace that feels comfortable for you, with your voice and experiences guiding the process.

What you can expect from me

Beginning therapy can feel unfamiliar, especially if you've had experiences where you didn't feel fully understood or comfortable expressing yourself. From our first conversation, my priority is to create a welcoming, culturally sensitive, and nonjudgmental environment where you feel safe being yourself. We'll start by getting to know your story, understanding what brought you to therapy, and exploring what you hope will be different in your life. I believe therapy works best when we're partners in the process, so we'll develop goals together that reflect your individual needs, values, and strengths. You can expect genuine empathy, thoughtful conversations, and practical strategies you can apply outside of our sessions. As we work together, we'll recognize your progress, navigate setbacks with compassion, and adjust our approach as your needs evolve. My hope is that you'll leave therapy with greater self-awareness, stronger coping skills, more confidence in yourself, and a renewed sense of empowerment to create the life and relationships you want.
