Great to meet you!

Welcome! I'm Dr. Keith Shebairo, MD. Most patients call me “Dr. S.” I’m a board-certified psychiatrist helping patients for 24 years. I specialize in Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and anxiety disorders. I was a program manager for VA (veteran affairs) PTSD residential and outpatient programs for 6 years treating the most severe cases of PTSD. My small clinical practice is for generally high functioning people who have PTSD and/or anxiety disorders. My practice focuses on medication management, therapy, teaching skills and techniques, and a holistic approach to treating PTSD and anxiety disorders.

My approach to therapy

I truly believe in the combination of medication, therapy, and holistic approaches (mindfulness, meditation, and other techniques I can teach you) to begin to heal from trauma and anxiety symptoms. I prescribe a wide variety of anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medications. I do not prescribe any medications commonly referred to as “controlled substances” in my practice. Common names for these medications include, but are not limited to, Adderall, Ritalin, Xanax, Ativan, Suboxone, and Ambien. Some patients need a higher level of care than I can provide in my practice such as patients with emergency or crisis situations (i.e. intent to harm self or others), active psychosis, actively abusing drugs or alcohol, and high risk patients which may include, but not limited to, prior suicide attempts or violence towards others, in addition to, patients seeking legal, employment, emotional support animal, or disability evaluation letters. I’m happy to discuss my practice policies with you during our complimentary 15 minute chat.

What you can expect from me

Because I have a small focused practice, I am able to spend time with patients for medication management, therapy, and discussion of your diagnosis and evidence-based strategies for best treatment. You will never feel rushed with me or that medication is the only option available. We'll review best types of therapy for your diagnosis. I teach many skills and strategies from with a holistic approach that many patients have found helpful with or without medication. Medication can have great benefit when prescribed for the right reasons. We’ll discuss together what medication and type of therapy could be helpful and why. No “cookie-cutter” approach to prescribing medication. I go over different options in an honest way so you know what to expect from any medication prescribed and different therapy approaches. You should expect to be heard and validated in sessions with me. I’m happy to discuss my approach to treatment during our complimentary 15 minute chat.
