Great to meet you!

Asking for help is often the hardest part of the journey. Whether you are navigating a major life transition, managing relationship strains, or carrying the weight of past trauma, you deserve a supportive space to heal.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with over 25 years of clinical experience, I have dedicated my career to helping individuals, couples, and families find clarity, resilience, and lasting change. My approach isn't one-size-fits-all; it is collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to your unique needs. I integrate evidence-based practices to help you untangle complex patterns, improve communication, and unearth the strengths you already possess. In addition to my clinical practice, I have spent years training the next generation of therapists as a Professor of Counselor Education in Ohio and Virginia. This deep academic and supervisory background ensures that the care you receive is grounded in the highest standards of the profession.

In our sessions, you can expect a non-judgmental, grounded environment where you feel truly heard.

Together, we will work to break down the barriers that are holding you back and build actionable strategies for a more fulfilling life.

When I am not in the office, you can usually find me reading historical fiction, spending time with my family, or keeping up with my 1-year-old cockapoo.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is integrative, collaborative, and entirely personalized to your unique goals and life experiences. I believe that you are the ultimate expert on your own life, which is why our work is anchored in Humanistic Therapy—providing a safe, empathetic, and entirely non-judgmental space where you feel genuinely heard.

Because everyone's journey is different, I draw from a diverse blend of evidence-based frameworks to best support you:

  • Strengths-Based Care: We focus on unearthing the resilience and internal resources you already possess, rather than just looking at what is "wrong."
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): We work practically to identify and reshape the unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors that may be keeping you stuck.
  • Motivational Interviewing: I support you through the natural mixed feelings that come with growth, helping you find your own internal drive to make meaningful changes.
  • Structural Family Therapy: When working with couples and families, I look at the invisible patterns, boundaries, and rules that organize your relationships. We collaborate to shift these dynamics so that your home becomes a place of balance, connection, and mutual support.

Ultimately, my goal is to blend my 25+ years of clinical and academic expertise into a warm, down-to-earth partnership, giving you the practical tools and insight you need to heal and move forward.

What you can expect from me

A Warm, Safe, and Grounding Space

Your first session is intentionally designed to be grounding, conversational, and completely safe. True to my Humanistic foundation, there is no clinical interrogation or cold checklist here. Instead, we begin by establishing a genuine, human connection. I provide an empathetic, non-judgmental environment where you can safely exhale and begin sharing your story at a pace that feels entirely comfortable for you.

An Exploration of Your Unique Story

Together, we will explore what brought you to therapy at this specific moment, whether you are navigating a major life transition, relationship strain, or trauma. We will look at your current landscape, but we will also focus heavily on a Strengths-Based approach, identifying the natural resilience and internal resources you already possess. If we are meeting for family or couples counseling, we will use a Structural Family Therapy lens to briefly look at the relationship structures, communication boundaries, and patterns currently in place.

Collaborative Goal-Setting and a Clear Roadmap

I don't dictate the destination of your healing; I partner with you to define it. Using Motivational Interviewing, I will help you clarify what a meaningful, fulfilling life looks like for you and identify the primary goals you want to work toward. You will not leave our first meeting wondering "What now?" Before the session ends, we will collaborate on a clear roadmap for future sessions and establish practical, CBT-focused strategies you can use during the week. My goal is for you to leave the session with relief, clarity, and a true sense of direction.
