Great to meet you!

Do you believe in a holistic approach to wellness—one that empowers you to realize your personal goals and strengths in order to live a more fulfilled life? I do. My name is Kelley Smith, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Virginia. I bring extensive experience working with children, adolescents, young adults, and families in both community mental health and private practice settings. My clinical expertise includes the treatment of trauma, anxiety disorders, depression, behavioral challenges, mood disorders, emotional dysregulation, and relational difficulties. I believe that physical, mental, and emotional symptoms often signal a deeper imbalance. Through a compassionate, person-centered approach, I provide a safe, respectful space where you can explore your challenges, gain insight, and discover your inner strengths. Together, we will work to foster greater self-awareness and promote healing and growth.

My approach to therapy

My therapeutic approach is trauma-informed and tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual. I integrate a variety of evidence-based modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). When appropriate, I also incorporate play therapy techniques and somatic interventions to support emotional expression, regulation, and mind-body connection. This integrative approach allows for flexibility and responsiveness in treatment, ensuring that care is compassionate, effective, and aligned with your goals for healing and personal growth.

What you can expect from me

When working with me, clients can expect a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where they feel heard, respected, and empowered. I understand that beginning therapy is a meaningful step, and I am committed to building a strong, trusting therapeutic relationship from the start. Therapy with me is collaborative. You’ll be actively engaged in the process, from setting goals to understanding how and why different strategies are used. I provide psychoeducation and practical tools to help you better navigate challenges, increase self-awareness, and foster lasting change. Above all, my goal is to support you in creating greater balance and help you feel empowered and equipped to move forward with confidence.
