Great to meet you!

Hi! My name is Kelly Veracruz, and I specialize in the treatment of depression, anxiety, trauma, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and relationships. I have a Master's of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Texas A&M University of Corpus Christi and over 6 years of experience working in private practice, school, and clinical settings. I work with individuals of all ages and abilities, and it would by my honor to be a part of your journey.

My approach to therapy

The approaches I like to use in therapy are as follows:

  • Client-Centered Therapy-I view you as the expert in your own life and myself as an expert in this field. We work together to collaboratively reach goals set by you, the client. In this approach, the client leads the process of self-discovery, healing, and personal growth in a supportive, nonjudgmental environment.
  • Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)-CBT is the most researched and evidenced-based treatment method and considered the "gold standard" of psychotherapy. Simply put, it works. If you want things to get better now, CBT is a great option. This is a structured approach led by the therapist.
  • Strengths-Based Therapy-This is a positive, collaborative approach that focuses on your inherent strengths, resilience, and personal resources rather than solely on deficits, pathologies, or failures. Rooted in positive psychology, it helps you build on your best qualities to improve your life, foster change, and address challenges.

I am also experienced in a number of other therapy approaches such as art therapy, play therapy, bibliotherapy, narrative therapy, trauma-focused cognitive behavior therapy, and more, but I like to first start with these three main approaches to get to know the clients' likes and preferences and tailor the therapeutic method to their unique needs.

What you can expect from me

I like to create a relaxed and laid back atmosphere for clients to express and explore their emotions, process events, and practice new ways of being. I love positive psychology and like to focus on what I call the "glimmers" in life. Due to confirmation bias, we tend to find what we are looking for in all circumstances, so I encourage my clients to look for the positive experiences such as beauty/art, love, and happiness. Schedule a first session with me through my calendar.
