Great to meet you!

You may know that something needs to change, but finding the motivation to actually make that change can feel like a completely different challenge. Maybe anxiety or depression has been affecting your relationships and everyday life, you’re struggling with substance use or another behavior that feels difficult to control, or you keep falling into patterns you know aren’t working. I’m Kevin Otero, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with 25 years of experience, and I work with teens, young adults, adults, and older adults who are ready to better understand what’s keeping them stuck and start moving toward a healthier, more fulfilling life. I genuinely love this work and helping people become the best versions of themselves.

My approach to therapy

My approach is practical, collaborative, and centered around helping you create meaningful change. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, psychodynamic therapy, and client-centered therapy depending on what makes the most sense for you. If you’re dealing with addiction or substance misuse, we can work on understanding the behaviors and patterns behind it while building healthier ways to cope with stress, emotions, and life’s challenges. I won’t expect you to change everything overnight. We’ll focus on understanding where you are, identifying what you want to be different, and building the motivation and tools to get there.

What you can expect from me

Our first session is about getting to know you and understanding what is really going on beneath the surface. We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, the patterns or behaviors you want to change, and what you hope life could look like instead. You don’t need to come in with a perfect plan or know exactly what you need from therapy. I’ll ask questions, listen, and work with you to begin identifying realistic next steps. If you’re ready to make a change but aren’t sure where to start, book a free consultation and let’s see if we’re a good fit.
